Israel is set to introduce a new Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA-IL) system for visa-exempt nationals commencing the 1st August 2024. This change aims to enhance national security by adding an additional screening step for travellers before they arrive at the border.

What has changed?
Starting from the 1st August 2024, all foreign nationals currently eligible for a visa exemption to Israel will be required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA-IL) through an online portal before traveling. This applies to short-term visits for tourism, business, and other non-work/non-medical purposes. While the go live date for the ETA-IL requirement is 1st August 2024, the application system will be available from 1st July 2024.

What you need to do
Applicants must submit an ETA-IL application online at least 72 hours prior to entering Israel. At present the application fee of NIS 25 application fee is being waived during the pilot period until the end of July 2024. Travellers should keep an eye out for any updates regarding potential delays in the implementation of the ETA system.
